The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has reopened its application portal for 2025 KCSE candidates seeking placement into universities, TVET institutions and other colleges across the country.
According to a notice issued by KUCCPS, the application system will remain open from May 16 to May 22, 2026, giving students an opportunity to revise their university choices or submit fresh applications after the first application phase closed on May 6.
Students who secured provisional placement into degree programmes have already been notified through SMS and the KUCCPS portal, while unsuccessful applicants have been advised to revise their course selections.
KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Agnes Mercy Wahome urged all eligible students who missed placement during the first phase to take advantage of the second application window.
According to Wahome, students who qualified for degree programmes but failed to apply, as well as those who applied but did not secure placement, should log into the system and apply again.
KUCCPS revealed that 212,510 students who scored a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE examinations have already applied for various courses.
The figure represents 79.1 per cent of the 268,714 candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade.
The placement agency also announced that several highly competitive degree programmes, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy and engineering, have already been filled due to limited slots and overwhelming demand.
As a result, the programmes have been removed from the application portal.
KUCCPS encouraged students who missed placement in the competitive programmes to consider other available degree and diploma courses currently listed in the system.
At the same time, KUCCPS confirmed that placement for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), and Kenya Utalii College is still ongoing.
Some of the KMTC diploma courses currently open for application include Diploma in Community Health, Diploma in Mortuary Science, Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology, Diploma in Medical Engineering, Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Diploma in Physiotherapy and Diploma in Public Health.
KUCCPS further noted that eight certificate courses are also available on a rolling basis until all available slots are filled.
However, highly sought-after programmes such as nursing, clinical medicine and pharmacy are currently unavailable and will instead reopen during the September intake.
Meanwhile, Kenya Utalii College is offering programmes including Diploma in Housekeeping and Laundry Management, Certificate in Front Office Operations and Certificate in Housekeeping and Laundry Operations.
The courses are open to students who sat KCSE examinations between 2000 and 2025.
To assist applicants during the placement process, KUCCPS and KMTC have deployed career guidance officers to 23 KMTC campuses across the country.
The placement agency has also partnered with the Huduma Kenya Secretariat to provide support services at all 59 Huduma Centres nationwide, where trained officers will help students with applications and course selection.
