KUCCPS Portal Opens for 2026 Intake
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has officially opened its application portal, giving thousands of students a chance to apply for their preferred degree courses for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The announcement was made on April 7 by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba after a consultative meeting with KUCCPS officials led by CEO Agnes Wahome.
Students who sat for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education and attained a minimum grade of C+ have now been invited to submit their applications.
Application Deadline Set for May 6
The KUCCPS portal is already live, and eligible candidates have a four-week window to complete their applications.
“The placement cycle has officially opened today, with the KUCCPS placement portal remaining open until May 6, 2026,” Ogamba confirmed.
This timeline gives students ample opportunity to carefully review available courses and institutions before making their selections.
How to Apply via KUCCPS Portal
Applicants can access the official portal here:
👉 kuccps.net/login
To log in, students will need:
- Their KCSE index number
- KCSE year
- Password (either KCPE index number or birth certificate number)
Once logged in, candidates can browse through courses, revise choices, and submit their final selections.
Universities and Funding Options
KUCCPS has listed a wide range of institutions available for placement:
- 42 public universities and the Open University of Kenya
- Eligible for government scholarships and HELB loans
- 30 private universities
- Eligible for HELB loans only
This distinction is critical for students when making decisions about affordability and financial support.
Courses Categorised Into 20 Clusters
To streamline the application process, KUCCPS has grouped degree programmes into 20 clusters.
These clusters determine competitiveness based on:
- Demand for the course
- Available slots
- Institutional capacity
A spot check also revealed that KUCCPS has uploaded all degree programmes alongside the 2024 cut-off points, which will guide placement decisions for 2025 KCSE candidates.
This means students can make more informed choices by comparing their grades against previous cut-offs.
What This Means for Students
The opening of the KUCCPS portal marks a crucial step for thousands of Kenyan students transitioning to higher education.
It is not just about selecting a course—it’s about shaping future careers.
Students are therefore advised to:
- Carefully review cluster requirements
- Choose courses strategically (including backup options)
- Submit applications early to avoid last-minute pressure
Final Thoughts
With the portal now open, the clock is ticking for KCSE candidates to secure their spots in universities and colleges across the country.
The process is more streamlined than ever, thanks to digital access and updated course data—but competition remains high.
For many students, the decisions made in the coming weeks could define their academic and professional paths for years to come.
