Alexander Kinoti Matiiri, a former assistant chief in Muthurwa, has been sentenced to two years in prison or a fine of Sh100,000 for accepting a Sh2,000 bribe to allow a trader to operate without a license.
Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko, who presided over the case, found Kinoti guilty of count two and cleared him of counts one and three.
Kinoti was also barred from holding any public office. The court ordered the interior minister to be informed of the verdict.
Kinoti had asked for a bribe of Sh5,000 from Linah Ngereza Asiyo to allow her to run an unlicensed wine and spirit store in Muthurwa Market.
He was also charged with accepting a payment of Sh2,000 from Ngereza to run the same store without a license.
Kinoti and village elder Justus Njoroge Hosea admitted to accepting a bribe of Sh1,800 from Ngereza to allow her to operate the store without a license.
