Real Madrid’s superstar forward Kylian Mbappe was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge during Los Blancos’ tense 1-0 win over Alaves on Sunday evening.
The French international, who joined the Spanish giants last summer, was dismissed in the 38th minute after a high and dangerous tackle on former Madrid academy graduate Antonio Blanco. Referee José Luis Munuera Montero wasted no time in reaching for the red card, marking Mbappe’s first sending off since his arrival in La Liga.
Before the incident, Eduardo Camavinga had fired Real into an early lead with a composed finish, a goal that ultimately proved enough to secure all three points. Madrid held firm despite being reduced to ten men for more than half the match.
The win keeps Real in hot pursuit of league leaders Barcelona, who extended their lead to seven points on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 victory away at Leganes.
Mbappe remains Real Madrid’s top scorer this season with 22 goals in La Liga, but his absence in the coming games could prove costly as the title race intensifies.
