Kenyan comedian and media personality Dr. Ofweneke has publicly apologised to musician Stevo Simple Boy following a controversial episode of his digital podcast, Lessons at 30, which sparked widespread criticism online.

The comedian took the unusual step of visiting the artist in person over the weekend in an effort to repair their relationship and address the backlash that followed the now-deleted interview featuring controversial commentator Andrew Kibe.

The controversy erupted after Kibe made remarks targeting Stevo Simple Boy’s appearance during the interview. Among the statements that angered viewers was his suggestion that the musician should not be allowed to have children because of how he looks.

The comments quickly spread across social media platforms, where many Kenyans condemned the remarks as insensitive and discriminatory. However, the criticism was not directed at Kibe alone.

Many viewers also criticised Dr. Ofweneke for appearing to laugh during parts of the conversation, arguing that his reaction gave the impression that he agreed with or supported the hurtful comments.

As public pressure mounted, Ofweneke made the decision to remove the entire episode from his digital platforms in an attempt to prevent further circulation of the remarks.

Despite deleting the interview, criticism continued to grow, prompting the comedian to take a more personal approach by visiting Stevo Simple Boy and apologising face-to-face.

Speaking during the meeting, Ofweneke described the visit as an act of humility and accountability, saying he felt a personal obligation to make things right with someone he considered a brother and long-time friend.

He explained that his laughter during the interview was never intended to mock the musician or make fun of his appearance.

According to Ofweneke, the reaction happened instinctively during the conversation and did not reflect his true feelings toward Stevo Simple Boy.

“The laughter was a reflex action,” Ofweneke explained during the meeting.

He added that upon reflecting on the incident, he realised that his reaction may have caused pain and disappointment both to Stevo and to fans who look up to him.

“I actually do regret that as a brother that should not have happened,” he said.

The comedian further noted that the controversy had become a lesson about responsibility, influence and character, especially for public figures whose actions are constantly scrutinised by audiences.

Ofweneke emphasised that a person’s worth should never be measured by physical appearance but by the impact they make in society and in the lives of others.

“Life is not a beauty contest,” he told Stevo during their conversation.

He continued by saying that what matters most is the value an individual brings to people rather than how they look.

“Nobody cares about how you look. We all care about the work that you bring into people’s lives.”

The statement appeared to resonate with many online users who praised the comedian for taking responsibility and addressing the issue directly rather than ignoring the criticism.

Ofweneke also reassured Stevo that he would continue supporting his career and standing by him despite the controversy.

“I will stand by you even more now because God had a reason to help us,” he added.

The comedian further confirmed that the controversial podcast episode would never return to his platforms and that the decision to remove it was permanent.

In addition, he announced plans to invite Stevo Simple Boy to a future episode of Lessons at 30 where the musician would have an opportunity to tell his own story and speak directly to audiences without distractions or ridicule.

Many fans welcomed the idea, saying it would provide an opportunity for Stevo to share his journey, struggles and achievements while changing the narrative surrounding the incident.

The apology has also reignited conversations in Kenya about cyberbullying, body shaming and the responsibilities that come with hosting interviews and entertainment programmes.

Several social media users argued that content creators and podcast hosts have a duty to challenge offensive remarks made by guests rather than appearing to endorse them through silence or laughter.

Others praised Ofweneke for showing humility and accountability by meeting Stevo personally instead of relying solely on a social media statement.

Towards the end of the meeting, Ofweneke thanked members of the public for holding him accountable and correcting him respectfully.

He said the criticism had helped him reflect on his actions and become a better person and broadcaster.

“I humbly accept the positive criticism,” he stated.

Addressing Stevo directly, the comedian offered one final message.

“I am sorry, and I love you so much.”

For many observers, the incident may ultimately be remembered not only for the controversy that sparked it but also for the apology and reconciliation that followed.

Whether the public fully forgives the comedian remains to be seen, but his decision to take responsibility and seek forgiveness in person has already earned praise from many Kenyans online.
