Employees at Tanaka Nursing Home have raised alarm over alleged prolonged salary delays, accusing the private healthcare facility of failing to pay workers for several months.

According to staff members who spoke on condition of anonymity, the delayed salaries have left many workers struggling to meet daily expenses, pay rent and support their families.

The workers claim the situation has continued for months despite repeated appeals to the hospital’s management for intervention.

Staff Describe Difficult Conditions

Some employees alleged that the financial strain caused by the salary arrears has pushed several workers into severe hardship.

According to claims shared with Kwetu News, some affected employees have reportedly been forced out of their rental houses after failing to pay rent due to the prolonged delays in salaries.

Others say they are struggling to afford food, transport and other basic necessities while continuing to report to work.

One employee who reached out to the publication appealed for anonymity while describing the difficult situation facing workers at the facility.

“Hello Kwetu News. Kindly hide my ID. Kuna hospital inaitwa Tanaka Nursing Home. Hawajalipa wafanyakazi for 5 months now. Wafanyakazi wanalala kwa church juu hadi nyumba zilifungwa. Akii, please waanike.”

The employee alleged that workers have gone for up to five months without receiving salaries.

Calls for Intervention

Affected staff members are now appealing to the management of the hospital and relevant labour authorities to intervene and help resolve the matter.

The workers argue that despite continuing to offer healthcare services, they have been left without a clear explanation on when the pending salaries will be paid.

They are also calling for urgent action to prevent further suffering among employees who depend entirely on their monthly wages.

The allegations have sparked concern among members of the public online, with many calling for employers to prioritise staff welfare, especially in the healthcare sector where workers provide essential services.

Growing Pressure on Private Employers

The claims against the facility come amid increasing concerns over delayed salaries and difficult working conditions in some private institutions across the country.

Labour rights advocates have repeatedly urged employers to ensure timely payment of wages, warning that prolonged delays can expose workers to emotional, social and financial distress.

Kenyan labour laws require employers to pay workers within agreed timelines as outlined in employment contracts.

Employees affected by salary disputes are also entitled to seek assistance from labour offices and other relevant authorities.

Awaiting Response

By the time of publication, there had been no official response from the management of Tanaka Nursing Home regarding the allegations raised by employees.

Kwetu News understands that staff members are still hoping for dialogue and intervention to help resolve the matter peacefully.

The situation continues to attract attention locally as workers push for payment of the alleged outstanding salaries and improved communication from management.
