The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened applications for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programmes, inviting eligible Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) holders to apply through its online portal.

According to KUCCPS, the application window opened on Wednesday and will run until January 27, 2026, marking a critical opportunity for thousands of students seeking to join Kenya’s leading medical training institution.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The January 2026 application window is strictly open to candidates who sat their KCSE examinations in 2024 or earlier.

KUCCPS clarified that:

  • Candidates who sat KCSE in 2025 are not eligible for the current window.
  • The 2025 KCSE candidates will instead be considered for the September 2026 intake, as they are yet to receive their examination results.

This phased approach is part of the 2026 university and college student placement process, which ensures orderly admissions across higher education institutions.

KMTC Lowers Entry Requirement for Insurance Course

In a major development, KUCCPS announced that KMTC has lowered the minimum Biology requirement for the Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme.

The new requirement is:

  • Biology/Biological Sciences: D (plain)
    (previously D+)

KUCCPS said the revision was recommended by KMTC to support the government’s flagship Taifa Care programme and the broader implementation of Social Health Insurance in Kenya.

Why the Course Matters Under Taifa Care

According to KUCCPS, the Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme plays a key role in preparing skilled personnel to support health sector reforms.

“The Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme is meant to prepare health workers to support the roll-out of the Social Health Insurance, which is a key programme being implemented under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda,” KUCCPS stated.

Graduates of the programme are expected to be absorbed into a job market that increasingly demands:

  • Automation of health services
  • Efficient insurance processing
  • Implementation of Social Health Insurance systems

This, KUCCPS noted, gives students pursuing the course a competitive advantage in employment.

Where the Course Is Offered

The two-year Certificate in Health Insurance Management programme is offered at the following KMTC campuses:

  • Bondo
  • Chwele
  • Mombasa
  • Nairobi
  • Nakuru
  • Nyamache
  • Nyeri
  • Rachuonyo
  • Rera
  • Webuye

KUCCPS emphasised that lowering the minimum entry grade does not compromise training standards.

“The revision of minimum requirements cannot compromise the quality of training since respective professional bodies ensure that KMTC meets the required standards during training,” KUCCPS added.

March 2026 Intake: Vacancies Available

Successful applicants will join KMTC during the March 2026 intake, where a total of 21,774 vacancies are available.

These slots are spread across:

  • 36 Diploma and Certificate programmes
  • 98 KMTC campuses nationwide

The wide distribution of campuses is aimed at increasing access to medical training across the country while supporting the growing demand for healthcare workers.

KUCCPS has urged eligible KCSE certificate holders to apply online by following these steps:
