HELB Disburses Tuition Funds After Delays, Upkeep Still Pending

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has announced the processing and disbursement of tuition funds for students following concerns over delays.

In a statement on Thursday, October 8, HELB said several batches had been processed and the funds successfully disbursed to various institutions.

The batches that have been paid include 007139, 007145, 007147, 007146 and 007132.

“Good news students! Batches HELB-007139, 007145, 007147, 007146 and 007132 have been processed and disbursed to institutions,” HELB stated.

How to Check

According to the loans board, students should check their HELB portals or contact their respective institutions for updates on the disbursements.

The released funds are specifically meant to cover tuition costs and will be paid directly to the students’ institutions.

Students who have yet to receive their upkeep funds are expected to wait longer as the board continues processing and disbursing the funds.

Delays Frustrate Students

The update comes as several students have expressed frustration over delays in receiving their funds, with some saying their applications have remained at the allocation stage for months.

However, according to HELB, the disbursement process has been initiated and will communicate with the affected students once the funds are released to their accounts.

“We are in the process of disbursing the funds and shall communicate once the process is done,” the board responded to a concerned student.

Ministry of Education Intervention

Following the delay in the release of funds, the Ministry of Education called on universities to admit students as the ministry intensifies fund distribution from the National Treasury.

It is worth noting that the Treasury allocated KSh58 billion for the student loan in the 2026-2027 financial year, a significant increase from the previous KSh41 billion allocation.

What This Means for Students

While tuition funds have now been disbursed for the listed batches, students awaiting upkeep allowances will need to remain patient as HELB continues its processing. The board has urged students to monitor their portals for updates.
