The Stanbic Kenya Foundation has launched a state-of-the-art Digital Learning Centre at ACK Kiamuringa School in Embu County, marking a major step towards expanding digital literacy and improving access to technology for learners and the wider community.
The Foundation donated 30 computers to establish the school’s first fully equipped ICT laboratory, an initiative expected to benefit approximately 200 students, 23 teachers, and hundreds of young people from the surrounding Kiamuringa community through digital skills training.
The new facility will not only enhance classroom learning but also operate as a shared community resource. Outside school hours, local youth and community members will have access to the ICT lab for digital literacy courses, online learning, and training aimed at preparing them for opportunities in the digital economy.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Stanbic Kenya Foundation Head Mercy Githanji said digital literacy has become essential for success in today’s world.
“At Stanbic Kenya Foundation, we believe that digital literacy is no longer an option, but a fundamental prerequisite for success in the 21st century. Our investment in ACK Kiamuringa School is an investment in the future of Embu County. By equipping this school with computers, we are enriching the classroom experience while opening opportunities for the wider community.”
She added that the Foundation remains committed to equipping young people with the digital skills needed to improve employability and actively participate in Kenya’s growing digital economy.
Supporting Kenya’s Digital Transformation
The project forms part of Stanbic Bank Kenya’s broader corporate social investment strategy focused on education, entrepreneurship, and job creation under its purpose of “Kenya is our home, we drive her growth.”
Through partnerships with educational institutions, the Foundation aims to bridge the digital divide by improving access to technology and creating sustainable opportunities for grassroots communities.
ACK Kiamuringa School Principal Joseph Mwaniki described the donation as a transformative milestone for the institution.
“We are deeply grateful to the Stanbic Kenya Foundation for this transformative donation. Previously, our students had limited exposure to practical computer lessons. This ICT laboratory changes everything by strengthening STEM education, equipping our teachers with modern instructional tools, and creating opportunities for our local youth.”
He noted that opening the facility to the wider community would turn the school into a hub for digital learning and economic empowerment.
Building Digital Skills Across Kenya
Since 2021, the Stanbic Kenya Foundation has partnered with various organisations to equip women, youth, and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with essential digital skills.
Through its Future ni Digital platform, the Foundation offers training ranging from basic to advanced digital competencies, contributing to more than 250,000 Kenyans trained since 2019.
The Embu Digital Learning Centre further supports the Government of Kenya’s Digital Masterplan by expanding access to technology, strengthening digital literacy, and creating community-based innovation hubs that can generate employment and stimulate local economic growth.
