Kenyan media personality Oga Obinna has explained why boxer Mbavu Destroyer will not be part of the upcoming Vurugu Two fight event.
Speaking during an interview with journalist Trudy Kitui at a Grace World Foundation event, Obinna addressed concerns from fans regarding changes made to the fight card and the absence of some expected fighters.
According to Obinna, Mbavu Destroyer’s exclusion was not due to a lack of value or popularity in the boxing scene, but rather because of how organisers restructured the match-ups.
“It is not that Mbavu has no value. The issue is the fight pairing and organisation of the card,” Obinna explained.
He added that the organisers were focused on ensuring the event lineup made sense in terms of rivalries, timing, and the overall flow of the competition.
Existing Rivalries Influenced the Decision
Obinna revealed that Mbavu Destroyer already has a long-standing rivalry with fellow fighter Majembe, which complicated efforts to include him in the revised fight card.
According to him, Majembe had already been placed in another planned match, making it difficult to restructure the event without disrupting previously announced fixtures.
He explained that Majembe was initially scheduled to face a Somali boxer in a bout that had already been made public as part of the earlier Vurugu Two lineup.
However, after organisers reviewed the entire structure of the event, several adjustments were made to reshape the direction of the competition.
Vurugu Two Upgraded to Championship Event
Obinna also disclosed that Vurugu Two has now been moved from BBS Mall to Sarit Centre.
He said the new venue reflects the growing ambition and scale of the event as organisers seek to elevate the Vurugu brand.
The relocation also came with a major shift in format, with Vurugu Two now being structured as a championship-style competition rather than an ordinary fight night.
Under the revised setup, Majembe has reportedly been positioned as the reigning champion within the Vurugu series, a move expected to shape future title fights and rivalries.
Obinna maintained that the organisers’ main priority was balancing the card properly while avoiding conflicts between existing rivalries and previously announced fights.
As preparations continue, organisers are expected to announce more updates regarding the revised fight lineup and additional match details ahead of the highly anticipated event.
