KUCCPS Issues New Directive for 2024 KCSE Candidates Locked Out of Portal

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service has issued a crucial clarification for 2024 and previous years’ Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates who missed out on the initial university placement application window.

In a move that brings relief to thousands of affected students, KUCCPS confirmed that although these candidates cannot apply through the official online portal, they still have a chance to be considered for placement through an alternative process.

How 2024 Candidates Can Still Secure Placement

According to KUCCPS, candidates who qualified for university placement in 2024 but failed to submit their applications via the portal are not entirely locked out of the system.

Instead, they are required to initiate their application manually by reaching out directly to the placement body via email.

“The 2024 group cannot apply for degree programmes via the online portal. If you qualified for university in 2024 and did not apply for placement, send a request for consideration by email to info@kuccps.ac.ke, and you will be guided,” KUCCPS stated.

This directive provides a second chance for students who, for various reasons, missed the structured application process.

Why 2024 Candidates Were Locked Out

The clarification comes amid growing frustration from students who met the minimum university entry grade but found themselves unable to access the KUCCPS portal.

KUCCPS explained that the current placement cycle is strictly reserved for 2025 KCSE candidates. Only students who sat for the 2025 exams and scored a minimum grade of C+ are eligible to apply through the system.

This means that while 2024 candidates remain eligible for placement, they are no longer part of the standard, automated placement cycle.

What This Means for Affected Students

The new guidelines signal that:

  • 2024 and earlier KCSE candidates are not automatically disqualified
  • They must follow a manual application process via email
  • Their placement will likely be handled on a case-by-case basis

This approach ensures that no qualified candidate is permanently locked out, even if they missed the initial window.

KUCCPS Portal Open for 2025 Candidates

Meanwhile, KUCCPS has officially opened its portal for 2025 KCSE candidates seeking placement into universities and colleges across the country.

The application window, which opened on April 7, will run until May 6, 2026.

Eligible candidates are required to log into the KUCCPS portal and submit their course selections within the stipulated timeline.

Challenges and Support Measures

Despite the portal opening, many candidates have reported difficulties accessing the system, including login issues and slow response times.

To address these challenges, KUCCPS has established support centres in all public universities across Kenya. These centres are aimed at assisting students with:

  • Application submission
  • Course selection guidance
  • Technical issues with the portal

Candidates are strongly encouraged to visit these centres before the May 6 deadline to avoid missing out.

Final Word

The latest directive from KUCCPS offers a lifeline to thousands of students who feared missing out on university education due to procedural challenges.

While the process may now require extra effort, the opportunity remains open — and for many, that could make all the difference in securing a spot in Kenya’s higher education system.
