Vihiga Senator Osotsi Attacked in Kisumu, Airlifted to Nairobi

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has been seriously injured following a violent attack in Kisumu, sparking outrage among political leaders and raising fresh concerns over political safety in Kenya.

The incident was confirmed by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who revealed that Osotsi is currently being airlifted to Nairobi for urgent medical attention.

Attack Occurred During Routine Visit

According to preliminary reports, the senator was attacked while on a routine visit in Kisumu.

Osotsi had reportedly gone for a haircut in the Acacia area before proceeding to a nearby Java Restaurant, where he met a friend and interacted with members of the public for about 30 minutes.

It was during this time that a group of armed individuals confronted him, allegedly questioning his political stance before physically assaulting him.

Sifuna Confirms Severity of Injuries

Sifuna, who was among the first to break the news, stated that the injuries were severe enough to require emergency evacuation.

“I have spoken to Senator Osotsi’s team and confirmed that he was viciously attacked and injured in Kisumu earlier today,” Sifuna said.

“The Senator is being airlifted to Nairobi as we speak.”

He added that Osotsi could not travel by road due to the seriousness of his condition.

Political Tensions in the Background

The attack comes amid rising political tensions involving factions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Osotsi is associated with the “Linda Mwananchi” faction, a group led by Sifuna alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.

The faction has been openly critical of elements within ODM perceived to be aligned with President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Calls for Immediate Police Action

Sifuna strongly condemned the attack and called for swift intervention by security agencies.

“I strongly condemn this attack and ask the Police for immediate action on those responsible,” he said.

The senator’s office also confirmed the incident, emphasizing that Osotsi had been engaging peacefully with the public before the confrontation.

Concerns Over Political Violence

The attack has reignited concerns over political violence and intimidation, particularly targeting leaders associated with opposition factions.

Supporters of the Linda Mwananchi movement claim they have repeatedly faced disruptions and alleged state-backed crackdowns during rallies across the country.

This latest incident is likely to intensify debate over:

  • Political tolerance in Kenya
  • Safety of public leaders
  • Role of security agencies in protecting politicians

Nation Awaits Updates

As Osotsi is rushed to Nairobi for treatment, Kenyans are anxiously awaiting updates on his condition.

The incident is expected to trigger strong reactions across the political divide, with pressure mounting on authorities to identify and prosecute those behind the attack.
