Murang’a DCP Officials Issue 48-Hour Ultimatum to Kimani Ichung’wah Over Remarks on Pastor Dorcas
Officials from the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) in Murang’a County have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, demanding a public apology over controversial remarks he allegedly made about Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, wife of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The remarks, which suggested the former Deputy President was facing marital difficulties and was “controlled” by his wife, sparked outrage across political and cultural circles.
“Withdraw or Face Legal Action,” DCP Warns
In a press conference held on Wednesday, July 23, DCP officials decried Ichung’wah’s comments as disrespectful, culturally offensive, and damaging to the dignity of a respected public figure.
“As the Murang’a DCP fraternity, we’ve given the Kikuyu MP a 48-hour ultimatum to withdraw his statements. If he fails, we will seek redress through the courts,” one party official stated.
They called for community elders to intervene and “cleanse” the lawmaker spiritually, warning that his words undermined the moral values expected of a national leader.
“You cannot insult a mother figure in public. It shows a lack of respect and leadership. We’ve lost faith in anyone who promotes insults over dialogue,” the official added.
Appeal to Government and Human Rights Bodies
The DCP officials also urged human rights organizations, the international community, and government officials to speak out against the MP’s alleged remarks.
“Such comments are not just personal attacks—they’re intimidation tactics meant to silence Pastor Dorcas,” said another DCP representative.
Public Backlash Grows Against MP Ichung’wah
Online, Kenyans have criticized the Majority Leader’s alleged statements as reckless, sexist, and unbecoming of a senior politician. Many have urged Ichung’wah to direct any political criticism toward Gachagua himself, not his spouse or family.
Pastor Dorcas Responds: “You Are Such Liars”
Speaking publicly, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi dismissed Ichung’wah’s allegations as baseless and insulting. She defended her husband’s strength, leadership, and influence, affirming the respect and unity in their marriage.
“When he lets me speak first, it’s not because I ‘sit on him’. How can you sit on a man who makes an entire nation stay awake?” she stated.
“A man whom the President, Deputy President, and MPs talk about constantly? You are such liars,” she added, standing firm beside Gachagua during their recent two-month U.S. tour.
Conclusion: Political Rift Deepens in Mt. Kenya Region
This incident adds another layer to the growing tensions within the Mt. Kenya political bloc, where divisions between allies of the President and the former Deputy President continue to deepen. As the 48-hour deadline approaches, all eyes are on Ichung’wah’s next move—and whether he will retract, remain silent, or respond defiantly.
