Siaya Senator and ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has moved swiftly to quell growing public anxiety, confirming that he is in good health despite viral reports claiming he had been hospitalized over the weekend.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, September 1, the veteran politician clarified the circumstances surrounding his recent hospital visit, urging Kenyans not to panic over what he described as a normal human experience.
A Routine Checkup, Not an Emergency
Addressing the swirling rumors directly, Senator Odinga explained that he had only briefly visited the hospital for a scheduled general checkup with his doctors and had since returned to his residence.
“Thank you for your concerns. I have read the nation’s digital news and wish to state that I am very well. I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general checkup with my doctors and have since returned home,” Oburu stated.
The ODM leader emphasized his commitment to transparency, assuring the public that he would be the first to inform them if he were facing a genuine health crisis.

Adding weight to the Senator’s statement, ODM Communications Director Philip Etale confirmed that Oburu was currently in high spirits at his Kitisuru residence in Nairobi.
“The ODM Leader Dr Oburu is currently hosting friends at his Kitisuru residence in Nairobi. He has sent me to greet you all,” Etale remarked, adding that the party leader is resting and will resume public engagements in the coming days.
To visually confirm his well-being, images shared by Oburu depicted him relaxing in his sitting room alongside a friend reading a newspaper, effectively disproving claims of a severe medical emergency.

The clarification comes after initial reports suggested that Oburu had been admitted to Nairobi Hospital on August 23 and discharged on August 27 after suffering from severe fatigue. However, these reports were contradicted by the Senator’s own account and the fact that he was seen playing golf in high spirits on Saturday, August 29—the very day he was allegedly rushed to the hospital.
A Call for Calm
Concluding his message, Oburu reminded the public that illness is a part of life and should not be a source of alarm.
“Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he added.
