NACADA Raids Jericho Counterfeiting Den, Arrests 3 in Major Booze Crackdown
In a decisive blow against the illicit alcohol trade, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA)-led multi-agency team raided a counterfeiting den in Jericho, Makadara sub-county, arresting three suspects, including a woman caught red-handed mixing substandard alcohol.
315 Assorted Counterfeit Beverages Seized
The operation, carried out jointly with officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), and the National Police Service, led to the confiscation of 315 counterfeit alcoholic bottles, fake KRA stamps, empty bottles, and filling caps. Notably, some products bore Tanzanian excise duty stamps—pointing to a sophisticated cross-border smuggling network.
Nairobi Leads in Killer Drink Consumption
NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa confirmed that enforcement has been intensified nationwide, with special focus on Nairobi, which accounts for a staggering 55% of life-threatening alcohol consumption. This comes amid heightened public alarm during the ongoing electioneering period.
Back-to-Back Raids Signal Unrelenting War
Just yesterday, a similar operation in Eastleigh netted 868 counterfeit and uncustomed drinks and two more arrests. These consecutive raids demonstrate NACADA’s commitment to dismantling the illicit supply chain.

Dr. Omerikwa appealed to Kenyans: “We cannot win this battle alone. Be our eyes and ears—report suspicious activities via our social media platforms or toll-free helpline 1192.”
