The mother of late Ohangla musician Tony Ndiema has emotionally revealed that suspected thugs allegedly broke into her home just days after she buried her son, demanding money they believed she had received.
Her heartbreaking account emerged in a phone call shared on TikTok, where the grieving mother described living in fear while struggling with loss, debt and financial hardship following the singer’s burial.
“They came looking for the money”
Speaking through tears, she claimed the intruders entered her home asking for money that had allegedly been contributed following Tony Ndiema’s death.
According to her, she had not been left with the funds people believed she received, leaving her vulnerable despite being targeted.
“The other day, thugs broke into my house asking for the money that I was given. Before God, there is not even a shilling that the committee left me. They even took the KSh50,000 I was given and disappeared with it,” she said.
She further lamented that she had hoped to use the money to settle debts, buy maize and start a small business to support herself after her son’s death.
The claims have not been independently verified, and no official police statement had been issued regarding the alleged incident at the time of publication.
A family battling grief and financial strain
The mother said the period after the burial has been marked by emotional pain and financial challenges, adding that she felt abandoned by people she believed would support the family.
Her emotional testimony has sparked sympathy online, with many Kenyans calling for support and justice for the grieving family.
Tony Ndiema died after a short illness
Tony Ndiema, whose real name was Anton Okoth Ochieng, passed away on June 30, 2026, while receiving treatment at Oasis Hospital in Kisii.
Before his death, the family had appealed for financial assistance after his health deteriorated, with fans and fellow musicians rallying behind the celebrated Ohangla artiste.
His death was widely mourned across the Luo music fraternity, where he was remembered for his contribution to the growth of Ohangla music in Kenya.
