Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed has strongly dismissed allegations of financial impropriety linked to the CHAN 2025 tournament, maintaining that all procedures were conducted transparently and within established frameworks.
In a detailed statement issued amid growing scrutiny, Mohammed defended the federation’s record, highlighting what he described as significant progress achieved within 15 months of the current administration.
FKF Lists Key Achievements
According to Mohammed, FKF has overseen major milestones, including the successful hosting of the African Nations Championship 2025, participation in the FIFA Women’s Series, and notable growth across domestic leagues, national teams, and grassroots football structures.
He framed these developments as evidence of a federation moving in the right direction despite ongoing criticism.
Insurance Controversy Addressed
The FKF president directly addressed concerns surrounding insurance arrangements during CHAN 2025, which have been at the center of recent allegations.
Mohammed clarified that the insurance cover in question was not handled by FKF but by the Confederation of African Football under the official host agreement.
“The required insurance cover for CHAN 2025 was procured by CAF, not myself, and was duly secured and maintained throughout the tournament,” he stated.
He further emphasized that FKF did not process or transfer any funds related to the insurance policy.
“FKF did not transfer or pay any money to any insurance company for CHAN competitions… There was no loss of funds in relation to the insurance cover,” Mohammed added.
Blames Resistance to Reforms
Mohammed linked the allegations to internal resistance against reforms he says are aimed at cleaning up Kenyan football administration.
He argued that his anti-corruption stance has made him a target.
“When you fight corruption, it fights back. I shall not tolerate mediocrity and corruption at the federation,” he said.
The FKF boss pointed to recent restructuring within the federation’s secretariat as part of ongoing reforms designed to improve efficiency and accountability.
Claims of Smear Campaign
In a striking claim, Mohammed alleged that there is a coordinated effort to damage his reputation.
“I am aware that there are plans to run a sustained smear campaign against me in an attempt to taint my reputation,” he stated.
Despite this, he maintained that he remains open to scrutiny and is willing to cooperate with investigators if required.
“I am willing to engage and cooperate with any investigative agencies… but responding to every falsehood is unviable and distracting,” he said.
Governance Questions Emerge
His statement comes shortly after FKF’s National Executive Committee passed resolutions requiring him and other officials to step aside to allow investigations into governance, financial management, and compliance issues.
The committee indicated that the move would pave the way for independent probes by FKF, national authorities, and international bodies.
Additionally, concerns were raised internally over claims that some executive members had been sidelined from their duties, potentially in breach of the FKF constitution.
Mohammed Defends Leadership Role
Mohammed reiterated that governance structures within FKF remain intact, stressing that financial and administrative processes fall under the office of the General Secretary, who acts as the accounting officer.
He maintained that the president’s role is primarily strategic, focusing on leadership and policy direction rather than direct financial management.

The FKF president also urged the media to maintain professionalism and accuracy in reporting, warning that misinformation could erode public trust in football institutions.
