A major fire has broken out at a commercial building along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), near the Munyu Road junction, triggering panic among traders and pedestrians.
The incident, reported late Saturday evening, sent thick plumes of smoke rising above the CBD as people in nearby shops and streets scrambled to safety.
Fire Engines and Emergency Crews Deployed
Multiple fire engines and emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene as firefighters moved quickly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.
Authorities sealed off sections of Luthuli Avenue to allow firefighting operations and rescue efforts to continue without disruption.
Cause and Damage Yet to Be Established
By the time of publishing, the cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the commercial property had not yet been determined.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, although emergency services remained on high alert as operations continued inside the affected building.
Motorists and the Public Warned to Avoid the Area
Police and emergency officials urged motorists and members of the public to avoid Luthuli Avenue and surrounding streets to allow fire crews to work efficiently and reduce congestion.
The fire adds to ongoing concerns about commercial building safety, fire preparedness, and insurance cover within Nairobi’s busy CBD, where tightly packed properties can turn small blazes into major disasters.
