Detectives in Busia County are investigating a suspected case of murder after the body of a missing man was discovered floating in the Museverende River in Muyafwa on June 29.
The deceased, identified as Richard Kutto Kipkemboi, 56, was originally from the Kamariny area in Elgeyo Marakwet County. His body was recovered days after he had been reported missing, police confirmed.
According to authorities, identification documents found on the body helped establish the victim’s identity. Early reports from the scene indicate possible foul play, and investigators suspect the man may have been murdered elsewhere and the body dumped in the river.
The body was retrieved and moved to a local mortuary pending a postmortem examination, which will guide further investigations.
Busia police have opened a murder file and are urging members of the public with any information to come forward as the probe continues.
