Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has shed light on the Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) decision to collaborate with President William Ruto’s administration. In an interview on March 4, 2025, she emphasized that political dynamics often involve working with individuals or groups with differing opinions to achieve specific objectives. She stated, “Sometimes you have to work with the person you don’t agree with to meet your goals.”

Odhiambo further clarified that ODM’s cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza government is informal and not legally binding. She noted, “We are working with the government but we are not legally in government. We may be cooperating but we are not in government.”

Addressing concerns from younger constituents, particularly Generation Z, Odhiambo assured that this cooperation does not signify a betrayal of their interests. She acknowledged the youth-led protests against tax proposals in June 2024 and emphasized that the party’s current strategy aims to address such issues effectively. She remarked, “After the Gen Z issues which, they think is a betrayal; for those of us who have been there, done that, it is not really a betrayal because after all that then what.”

In summary, Millie Odhiambo articulates that ODM’s engagement with President Ruto’s administration is a strategic move designed to further the party’s goals and address national challenges, while maintaining its distinct political identity.
