,,‘Kuja unifungulie mlango’ I heard the voice outside the window. It seems the caretaker, who stays near the gate, had opened for him.
‘MZEE WANGU AKO HAPA NJE’ she said while jumping from the bed. She hanged her phone and started putting things in place. She threw the tissue under the bed, stretched the soiled sheets, she hid our clothes in the wardrobe. While at it, her phone rang again.’Nakujaa’ as she dashed out in a leso. She signalled me to hide below the bed.
I dashed under the bed naked. It’s while I was under the bed that I remembered my jeans was in the sitting room. ‘Karibu dad’ I overheard them exchange greetings in the sitting room.’ulikua unaoga hio muda yote ati hujaona missed kol?’ I had a man roar. Milka, as she had told me got married to a 60 year old because of money. She lacked all the basic necessities of love. “Na hii nguo ni ya nani?”That’s question killed me. “Uko na mtu kwa nyumba yangu?’ The floor got completely wet because I was sweating. The two came to the bedroom rushing. The man opened the wardrobe, ‘ako wapi huyo mwanaume’ I could hear Milka crying,”Hakuna mtu ako hapa’. ‘Mekuuliza ako wapi huyo mwanaume” as the man bent to look under the bed our eyes met.
There are things that happen in our lives that leave us with more questions than answers but as I had indicated earlier, Khadija had confirmed she was not happy in her marriage. She got married to an elderly man because of money. As I later learnt the man was a X KDF soldier. Let’s proceed with our story. “Nimekuuliza ako wapi huyo mwanaume”, as the man bent to look under the bed our eyes met. In shock the old man collapsed and fell right in front of my eyes. That night remains one of the worst nights in my life.
I can confess had Khadija not begged me to sleep with her, I could not have had such a thought. Remember I am a man and Khadija is a woman. We have feelings and being in the same house at the wee hours of the night could lead to anything, including an awesome threesome. I am also a church member and the good book says ask and you will be given. That night we had planned to exploit ourselves but things turned tragic. That night Khadija had promised to share her love like she had never done. It was about eleven forty in the night when Khadijas husband came in and collapsed right in front of me.
Khadija was in shock, I was in shock too.’What do we do?’ Khadija asked. ‘Let me ask for an uber, we need to rush him to hospital’ I said dashing to the sitting room to pick my trouser. When I came back to the bedroom, I met Khadija giving her husband chest thrusts to regain his breath. “Wacha tumwombe madam Rita ile gari yake”, Khadija said amid while panting. I did not want to involve Rita in this mess. Rita had already started hating on me and secondly I did not want her to know I was in Khadijas house when the incidence happened. I tried to avoid that request but Khadija went ahead and called her. Rita did not pick at first. On a third subsequent call she picked. When Rita arrived she found the door locked. When I opened,’Ni nini imefanyika?’ Rita asked as she jumped into the house. ‘Hata me ndo nimeingia naskia mzee ame collapse’ I lied. I did not want Rita to know I was there when the incident happened.’Kwani uliingia na kujifungia?’ Rita joked as she started calling Khadija. “Kadija…Kadija” Rita called Khadija with a strong Kikuyu ascent as she went to their bedroom where she responded from. I followed her in. ‘Ni nini imefanyika?’ She asked….TO BE CONTINUED
