Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s demand for the resignation of Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir and Treasury counterpart Njuguna Ndung’u over an alleged controversial government-to-government fuel deal with two Gulf firms in President William Ruto’s administration.
Raila accused the CSs of involvement in what he claims is a corrupt scheme that misused funds from the consolidated fund and exceeded approved parliamentary budgets. He also urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate and prosecute them.
President Ruto countered Raila’s allegations, asserting that the contracts were transparent and available in Parliament, dismissing claims of secrecy around the deals.
Raila further questioned the authenticity of the claimed benefits of the deal, citing failures to lower fuel prices and criticized the handling of a Ksh 17 billion withdrawal, directly linking it to the controversial fuel deal.
These allegations and counter-arguments highlight a significant dispute over the transparency, legality, and outcomes of the government-to-government fuel deal, escalating into calls for resignations and investigations.
