KCB End Gor Mahia’s Winning Streak With 2-1 Victory to Climb to Second

KCB FC head coach Robert Matano has praised his players following their 2-1 victory over Gor Mahia on Sunday, November 1, a result that lifted the bankers to second place in the Kenya Premier League table.

The match, played at Moi Stadium in Embu, saw Assis Mambote and Richard Omondi score for KCB in the 20th and 33rd minutes respectively. Alpha Onyango pulled one back for the record champions in the 37th minute.

KCB now sit second in the table with 10 points, two behind leaders Gor Mahia. AFC Leopards, Murang’a Seal and Migori Youth occupy third, fourth and fifth positions with nine, seven and six points respectively.

Matano: “Our Focus Is on Maintaining This Momentum”

“I’m happy that we ended Gor Mahia’s winning streak by beating them. Our focus now is on maintaining this momentum ahead of our upcoming fixtures,” said Matano.

However, the KCB coach expressed disappointment with forward Baron Oketch Jobita, who was sent off in the 86th minute. He insisted that such mistakes must be avoided for the good of the team.

“I’m very disappointed that Baron Oketch received a red card. I don’t like seeing any of my players sent off, and I will deal with him because his dismissal left the team with 10 men,” Matano said.

“We have only just started the league, so it is too early to say whether we can win the title. Our focus is firmly on the upcoming fixtures.”

Mambote: “Three Points More Important Than My Goal”

KCB striker Assis Mambote also expressed his delight at the victory, saying the three points were more important than his individual contribution.

“I’m very happy that we managed to claim maximum points. That is more important to me than the goal I scored. My focus now is on continuing to find the back of the net, as that is my job as a striker,” said Mambote.
