Actor Onyi Begins Three-Month Rehabilitation as NACADA Urges Family Support

Actor Onyi is preparing to embark on a three-month rehabilitation programme, with his family and well-wishers being urged to stand by him as he takes a major step towards recovery from substance-related challenges.

The development has sparked a message of hope and unity, with Eric Mugire from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) appreciating the family for showing up and offering support during what could be a challenging period for the actor.

“The First Step of Healing Is Acceptance”

In a heartfelt appeal, Mugire reminded families that accepting the problem is an important starting point when a loved one is struggling with drug addiction.

“The first step of healing is acceptance,” he said.

His words carry an important message for families who may be struggling to help a relative affected by substance use: sometimes, the first move towards change is acknowledging that help is needed.

Family Support Takes Centre Stage

According to Mugire, Onyi’s journey should not be treated as an individual struggle. Instead, he wants those around the actor to walk with him throughout the rehabilitation process.

“Please, we need your prayers. Let us walk this journey as a family,” Mugire appealed.

The message highlights the importance of creating a supportive environment for someone seeking treatment, without shame, stigma or unnecessary judgment. Rehabilitation can be demanding, and having people who offer encouragement and practical support can help a person feel less isolated while navigating the process.

Onyi’s supporters are now being encouraged to keep him in their prayers as he begins the three-month programme.

Jaguar Pledges Support

The actor has also received encouragement from Mr Jaguar, who reportedly reached out to assure him that he would support his recovery.

Jaguar promised to visit Onyi and assist with shopping and upkeep, offering practical help alongside words of encouragement.

Onyi expressed his gratitude, saying: “Kumbe ulinielewa na ukaniskia. Shukran sana.”

The message reflects how much it can mean to someone when others take the time to listen and offer support during a difficult season.

A Message to Kenyans

As Onyi begins this chapter, the appeal extends beyond his immediate circle. Families dealing with substance use challenges are being encouraged to seek professional help rather than remain silent because of stigma.

NACADA’s toll-free helpline, 1192, is available for people seeking assistance with drug and substance use-related concerns in Kenya.

For Onyi, the focus now is on the journey ahead, with his family, supporters and well-wishers being asked to stand together.

Sometimes, a new beginning starts with one brave decision to accept help.
