Vurugu 1.0 boxing champion Majembe has finally addressed widespread speculation surrounding the amount of money he earned after his headline victory over Mbavu Destroyer at Kasarani Arena.

Speaking during an exclusive interview on the 2mbili TV YouTube channel, the boxer dismissed claims that he pocketed more than KSh 3.5 million from the highly publicized bout. According to Majembe, the figures circulating online were exaggerated and did not reflect the reality of what he actually received.

His revelations have sparked fresh conversations among fans who had believed the boxer walked away with one of the largest paydays in Kenyan boxing history.

Majembe Sets the Record Straight

Following months of speculation, Majembe clarified that his total earnings from the event amounted to approximately KSh 1.8 million.

The amount included the official KSh 1.7 million winner’s prize and an additional KSh 100,000 that was provided by the event promoter to support him during his training camp.

Addressing the rumours, the boxer explained that social media often inflates figures and creates perceptions that do not always match reality.

“Those were just stories, but in reality, it didn’t reach that amount. People will say anything online, but what you actually get is different—pale mimi niliokota kitu kama 1.7 million hapo. So, let’s assume hizo zingine ni kama nililipa tax. Hiyo 1.7m nilipewa cash,” Majembe said.

Despite earning less than the figures being discussed online, the boxer maintained that he was satisfied with the deal and considered it a major achievement.

Why Majembe Has No Regrets

Majembe believes the Vurugu 1.0 event changed his life and offered rewards that few local boxers have ever received.

Apart from the cash prize, he also walked away with a vehicle and an iPhone 17 Pro Max, benefits he says make the arrangement worthwhile.

According to the fighter, the event represented a win-win situation for both him and the organizers.

“But mimi sifeel like kuna mtu alininyanyasa, niliona ni kama win-win situation juu Kenya hakuna mtu amewahi cheza game akapata doh kama hiyo na gari na iPhone 17 Pro Max.”

His comments suggest that despite disagreements that later emerged, he still appreciates the opportunities created by the Vurugu boxing series.

How Majembe Invested His Money

Rather than spending his winnings on luxury items, Majembe says he focused on securing his future and improving the lives of his family members.

One of his proudest achievements was purchasing land, a long-term investment he had planned long before receiving the prize money.

The boxer revealed that helping his mother remained his biggest motivation.

“What I am proud of is that I bought land. It was always my plan to get my mother out of the ghetto and boost her business.”

The investment marks a significant milestone for the athlete, who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most talked-about fighters in the country.

Still Owns His Prize Car

Majembe also dismissed rumours that he had already sold the vehicle he won after defeating Mbavu Destroyer.

According to him, the car remains in his possession and he has no plans to dispose of it.

Instead, he intends to turn it into an income-generating asset by registering it with a travel SACCO.

The move is expected to help him earn a steady monthly income while preserving the value of his prize.

For the boxer, the vehicle is more than just a symbol of victory—it is part of a broader strategy to build financial stability beyond boxing.

Why Majembe Pulled Out of Vurugu 2.0

Perhaps the most surprising revelation from the interview was Majembe’s confirmation that he will not participate in the upcoming Vurugu 2.0 event.

The reigning champion had initially been scheduled to face a Somali boxer in what many fans expected to be one of the biggest fights on the card.

However, negotiations between the boxer and the event promoter reportedly broke down over contractual disagreements.

According to Majembe, the dispute centered on issues involving his personal sponsorship agreements.

Relationship With Promoter Breaks Down

The conflict escalated to the point where communication between the two parties reportedly ceased altogether.

Majembe claimed that the promoter blocked him on communication platforms after disagreements over contract terms.

“So, juu ya hiyo stori ya kutoelewana kicontract, Obinna ameniblock. Ni kama aliingizia na akaona mimi ni mbaya juu ya kumwambia hapa haiendi hivi vizuri.”

With the event approaching rapidly and negotiations unresolved, Majembe says he was forced to stop training.

The champion admitted that he is no longer in fighting condition and therefore cannot participate in the event even if an agreement were reached at the last minute.

Looking Ahead to December

Although he will miss Vurugu 2.0, Majembe insists that his boxing journey is far from over.

The fighter remains confident in his abilities and hinted at a possible return to the ring later this year.

He teased the possibility of either a rematch against Mbavu Destroyer or a future showdown with the Somali boxer he was initially scheduled to face.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether the reigning champion returns in December for another blockbuster contest.

Despite the controversy surrounding his withdrawal, Majembe’s story remains one of resilience and transformation—from a boxer chasing opportunity to a champion investing in his family’s future and building a life beyond the ring.
