Manchester United players banned, Chelsea gains advantage in upcoming match.Chelsea gains a competitive edge after Manchester United players face bans.

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has openly expressed his frustration following the suspension of key defenders Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire ahead of a crucial Premier League showdown against Chelsea FC.

The Red Devils are heading into Saturday’s high-stakes clash at Stamford Bridge severely weakened at the back, a situation Carrick described as “massively disappointing” during his pre-match press conference.

This comes at a critical point in the season, where every point could determine qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Martinez Red Card Sparks Outrage

The biggest controversy surrounds Lisandro Martinez, who was sent off during Manchester United’s recent defeat to Leeds United.

The Argentine defender received a straight red card for allegedly pulling the hair of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in what Carrick has labeled as one of the worst refereeing decisions he has witnessed.

According to Carrick, the incident involved minimal contact and did not warrant such a severe punishment. Despite the club’s frustration, Martinez now faces a three-match ban, ruling him out of one of United’s most important fixtures.

Maguire Ban Adds to Defensive Crisis

As if Martinez’s absence wasn’t enough, Harry Maguire will also miss the clash after receiving an extended suspension.

Maguire was initially sent off during a 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth on March 20. However, the situation escalated after the Football Association handed him an additional ban for allegedly insulting match officials.

Defensive Headache Deepens

The crisis in defence is further compounded by the ongoing injury to Matthijs de Ligt, who remains sidelined.

With three senior centre-backs unavailable, Carrick is expected to turn to promising youngsters Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.

Champions League Race Intensifies

Despite recent setbacks, Manchester United still hold a seven-point advantage over Chelsea FC in the race for a top-five finish in the Premier League.
