Detectives in Nairobi’s Tassia area are investigating a possible murder following the death of Owen Kiptoo, 25, who reportedly fell from a kitchen balcony at an apartment on September 12, 2025.

According to police reports, Kiptoo had earlier been at a bar in the area with a group of friends before leaving with the owner of the house where the incident occurred. The house owner told police she could not find her key, prompting Kiptoo to try accessing the house through the kitchen door — where he allegedly lost his footing and fell to his death.

Kiptoo died instantly. Police who visited the scene described the house as being “in disarray,” raising suspicions of a struggle before the fall. Detectives say they are treating the case as a potential murder and are working to establish whether Kiptoo was pushed or fell following an altercation.

The house owner and two other people who were reportedly in the apartment at the time of the incident have been detained for questioning. Kiptoo’s body was moved to the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.

Separate Construction Accidents Claim Lives in Nairobi and Kilifi

In a separate incident in Nairobi’s Kileleshwa area, a 22-year-old man identified as Erick Ochieng died after being struck on the head by a falling log at a building under construction along Durham Road on September 9, 2025. Ochieng, who was among the site workers, was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

On the same day, tragedy struck a construction site in Ndonya, Kilifi County, where a 25-year-old construction worker died after being hit by a falling block.

Authorities say such workplace accidents have been on the rise, prompting calls for stricter adherence to safety protocols. Police, county officials, and the National Construction Authority (NCA) have launched investigations into all the incidents.
