Ruto’s Nominees: 11 Cabinet Secretaries

President William Ruto’s recent nomination of 11 new members to his Cabinet marks a significant step in his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and implement key reforms.   • Kithure Kindiki as Interior CS, continuing his crucial role in maintaining national security and internal affairs.
  • Alice Wahome remains at the helm of the Lands docket, overseeing land reforms and management.
  • Aden Duale stays as Defence CS, ensuring continuity in the country’s defense strategies.
  • Soipan Tuya continues to lead the Environment docket, focusing on sustainable environmental practices and policies.

Shifts within the Cabinet include:

  • Davis Chirchir, moving from Energy to the Roads and Transport docket, tasked with enhancing infrastructure development.
  • Rebecca Miano, transitioning from Trade to become the new Attorney General, bringing her experience to the country’s legal framework.

New entrants to the Cabinet are:

  • Debra Mlongo Barasa for Health, aiming to address public health challenges and improve healthcare services.

The President highlighted the enhancement of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, aiming to incorporate a wider range of ideas and programs to facilitate:

  • Robust debt management: Implementing measures to manage and reduce national debt effectively.
  • Enhanced transparency and accountability: Ensuring that public resources are used efficiently and transparently.

  • Optimising public expenditure: Ensuring that public spending is efficient and impactful.
