Help Save Njambi Koikai: Blood Donation Urgently Required

Reggae Enthusiast and Aspiring Politician Jahmby Koikai Appeals for Blood O Positive Donation

Mary Njambi Koikai, popularly known as Jahmby, a beloved reggae enthusiast and aspiring politician, has been hospitalized at the Nairobi Hospital. In a heartfelt appeal, she is seeking blood donations of type O positive to aid in her treatment. She shared her plea on Instagram stories, stating, “Hi fam, I’m currently admitted at the pioneer ward Nairobi hospital and I kindly need Blood O positive. Kindly asking for blood donors for Mary Njambi Koikai.”

This isn’t the first time Jahmby has sought public support for her health battles. She has been a vocal advocate for those suffering from endometriosis, a debilitating condition that she knows all too well. On May 20th, Jahmby made an emotional appeal to several Kenyan leaders, including President Ruto, urging them to invest more in health care during his state visit to the US.

In her message, Jahmby highlighted the dire need for better healthcare facilities for endometriosis patients in Kenya. She mentioned Atlanta, Georgia, as a beacon of hope for women suffering from this painful condition. “Atlanta, Georgia is a dream city for every young girl and woman who has ever battled this horrific disease called Endometriosis. Therein lies a centre dedicated to restoring the lives of young girls and women who are crippled by this disease,” she wrote.

Jahmby has been a tireless advocate for raising awareness about endometriosis. She explained the condition succinctly: “Endometriosis is tissue similar to the lining of the uterus growing on other organs. In simple terms, ni wakati tunapopata hedhi, ama periods, we shed the lining of the uterus. Unfortunately, with Endometriosis that lining grows on other parts of the body.” Her own experience with the disease is harrowing, as the tissue grew on her lungs, causing them to collapse monthly, leading to numerous surgeries. It took 17 years for her to receive a proper diagnosis.

The lack of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment in Kenya has had severe consequences for Jahmby. She recounted how the disease spread extensively, affecting her teeth, heart, appendix, and spine, causing her organs to shift. The toll of endometriosis and adenomyosis has also led to infertility for many women, including Jahmby.

“1 in 10 women are battling Endometriosis worldwide. The numbers are staggering. Due to our traditions and taboos, young girls and women are shamed to believe that period pain is normal,” she emphasized, underscoring the widespread lack of awareness and support for those suffering from the condition.

Jahmby urged President Ruto to visit The Center for Endometriosis Care and the Northside Hospital Women’s unit during his US trip. She praised the leadership of Dr. Ken Sinervo and Dr. John Gouldman at these centers for their multidisciplinary approach in treating women from around the globe.

As an Endo Warrior and a survivor of thoracic endometriosis, Jahmby Koikai continues to inspire many with her resilience and advocacy. Her current call for blood donors is a testament to her ongoing struggle and the collective effort needed to support those facing similar health challenges.

For those who can, donating blood could be a life-saving act for Jahmby. It’s a reminder of the power of community support and the impact we can have when we come together to help one another in times of need.
