THE HOOD: Aunty Wa Harrier(EP 19)

,,,,,,I folded my sleeves and went down to business; tackling forex trading. A good teacher shouldfirst
introduce self to the students and give them your contacts. I did exactly that. A phone vibrating
in my pocket interrupted my class. I was hardly 30Mins into the lesson. When I removed my
phone from the pocket I found it was Rita calling. I excused myself and rushed outside. ‘Beb?’ It
was how Rita started. That word alone brought back so many memories. Memories of love. It was almost a month since we had a conversation like this
‘Uko free tuongee?’ Rita asked. I affirmed and we spoke at length. Every sentence brought back
the memories. Rita had called to invite me to her house in the evening. ‘I have a surprise for you, do you mind coming to my place?’ Rita requested. I declined with a lame excuse. ‘Conrad, forget
what happened in the morning’ she pleaded. ‘Betty will join college next year and we shall enjoy all
by ourselves’. I did not want to eat most of the student’s time and so I accepted to meet herthat
evening. When I finished the lesson the 6 students plus Sabrina offered to escort me to the bus stop.
‘Kindly be coming over the weekend to coach us I have loved the way you have simplified the
content’ the Indian lady requested as we left. That evening I did not want to pass through Ritas house. I was embarrassed after what had
happened that morning. I was embarrassed because I had eaten a hen with its chick simultaneously.

I could not imagine how I was going to face them. Yes, I enjoyed but I did not
like how Betty soiled the scene. She was new and naïve. I gathered the courage and proceeded to her house. I texted Rita as I was going up the stair case and she confirmed she was in the house.

I proceeded to check on her. When I entered, I got her seated on the coach exhausted. She rose up and hugged me. She also gave me a slight kiss on the left chin, ‘mhh have a sit dear’ she said as she strained to sit back. “Na umechoka sana leo?” I asked. ‘Ndio, leo mekua najob mob. Wee hujachoka’ she asked. ‘Sio sana’ I answered. ‘hata sijui ntapika hii samaki saa ngapi? She said.

‘Kwani msichana hayuko?’ I asked looking to the side where the fish was. I love women yes but food supersedes that.

’Msichana alienda kufanya booking na atalala kwa aunt yake
mwingine anaishi karibu na hapo’. She confirmed Betty was not sleeping there that night. I was also determined not to sleep. I decided to help her with cooking. Hope you remember I am very good in the kitchen, the way I
am in the other room. I took the fish dipped it cooking oil. I prepared the
onions, garlic, onions, coriander and prepared my meal. As the food was cooling I cooked ugali. Minutes later the food was ready and I served
As we were eating Rita broke the news, ‘Conrad, you know I love you’ I nodded. ‘Do you love me?’ I nodded again.

‘Conrad, I know you don’t love me, you remember that day I met you at Khadijas
place, were you not with Khadija? Today, were you not with Betty?’ why don’t you love me Beb? Before she completed talking my phone rang. It was a new number. I did not pick it. She insisted I pick it.

’I don’t pick new numbers’ I convinced her. Before I could finish explaining an sms vibrated my phone. ‘Sorry, it’s Aayushi, one of the girls you taught today. There is something I did not understand. Do you mind if you helped me tomorrow?’ PLZ,,,,,
