Provide professional and compassionate nursing services and high-quality care to patients, by ensuring their review and treatment as per the Hospital protocols, and nursing standards and practices.
Key Responsibilities
Work with multi-disciplinary Clinical team to navigate patients through the treatment journey, ensuring that haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments are administered correctly and as per plan.
Ensure all nursing protocols have been administered as per the set-out policies and guidelines, recording and reporting all sentinel incidents/events within 24 hours using the provided tools.
Constantly Monitor, assess and chart patient’s condition and response to treatment and medication, including the patients’ physical and psycho-social status, and adjust treatment accordingly.
Ensure proper and effective drug administration and management as per policy and procedures.
Conducts pre-dialysis patient assessment including obtaining patient vitals, assessing their vascular access, and laboratory findings, while ensuring all consultants have explained procedures and obtained consent.
Effectively manage patient data and records.
Ensure patients safety following the 6 International Patient Safety Goals (IPSGs).
Supervise Patient Attendants as per their job description.
Maintain and enforce infection control standards per policy, and observe the infection control bundles (SSI, VAP, CAUTI and CLABSI) where applicable.
Organize emergency trolley for easy use during resuscitation, ensure drugs and supplies are well stocked, damaged equipment reported promptly, and a checklist kept and updated as needed.
Ensure the unit is financially viable and demonstrates growth by managing costs and ensuring proper pre – authorization and documentation is done.
Ensure that Avenue Healthcare corporate governance policies are adhered to, including preventing, detecting, and reporting any fraud or criminal activities, and Implementing audit recommendations.
Ensure adequate knowledge of and compliance to all Avenue Healthcare policies, procedures, and systems, especially policies pertaining to the provision of medical services i.e. Admission & discharge, nurses’ reports, equipment and supplies, etc.
Adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients as guided by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor.
Personal Specifications
BSc Nursing, or a Diploma in Nursing (KRCHN) and Higher Diploma in Nephrology Nursing
A valid Nursing License from NCK
Valid certification in BLS, ACLS.
2+ years’ experience working in a similar environment.
